ReplyDeleteImperialisms Aftermath
ReplyDeleteThe Sepoy Rebellion was a moment in history that brought change to the India culture and life. There were innocent Indian lives being lost because of the decision of the Sepoy. Britain had control over the East India Company and they still had some differences to settle. After the long wars ended, India had no choice but lo live with the British. Britain sent troops to India and taxed the people even more for what they have done. India had to undergo all of this but they had to gain their own liberty because Britain was making decisions that benefited the mother country, not India. Britain changed the farmland to cash crops, which decreased the food supply. This caused famine, and Britain just had to get the country out of this situation. It was gained through a lot of work but it took too long.
The Westernized Indians decided that India should be alone. These liberal movements were about to take place. The Indians then made the Congress Party that wanted to bring culture back to normal. Yet the Muslims have the nerve of losing trust in the Hindus and decided to form the Muslim league to have some say in liberty after independence. By early 1900’s protests and demands for self-rule ended up in protesting for independence. The demand was granted in 1947 and India became a free country.
The Peoples lives
ReplyDeleteThe Sepoy Indians consisted of Muslim, Hindu, and Islam religions. The Sepoys served in the European army and vowed to stay loyal to them. British crossed the line and when they gave the Sepoys new cartridges laced with animal fat which they had to bite off. The taste of animal fat was forbidden according to Hinduism. This created rebellion, but India lost the fight. There was no hope but to live with the British. Britain stopped interfering with the Indian’s religion. The Indians had to accept westernization. There were many Indians that were modernized due to the education from Britain. The Indians will have a better relationship with the British and there will be more trust with both sides. But for now, the Indians have to be treated like the lowest kind for the act that they put up on the Sepoy Rebellion. The British want the Indians to follow their culture. They want the people to dress like them, speak like them and follow the same religion as them. Woman can now remarry and everyone had to speak English. The caste system was demolished and an Untouchable had similar rights as a Brahmin. Many low ranking castes moved up in society and it was possible for an Untouchable to pass as a high-ranking person in some areas of India. Christian missionaries wanted the Indians to forget about Hinduism and wanted them to become Christians. Eventually after the independence movement of 1947, the British stopped interfering with India’s culture and religion.
