Ridiculous! This is just insanity! Not a crook ‘n nanny left for us!

The British think they can just barge into our land take over it?!

Sure, they have about half the world but that doesn’t mean we’re not our own independent world with living. We Indians are not children that need to be taught again. I’m not interested in western culture at all. People were happy, and now my family is in stress figuring out which side to choose. Why even change the “Indian life”? For centuries, we’ve been Hindus and Muslims, now forced to change to Christianity?

Our ancient traditions and morals have kept India happy. The British want to take off the caste system. That means those who were reincarnated into the Untouchables will be equal to the Brahmans! It’s a murderer next to the hero!

How much more offensive is it that they bring in new technology that offends our kind?
Let’s take for example the new rifles; it uses a certain type of cartridge that requires the solider to bite off the top to reload. These cartridges are COVERED in animal fat. To Hindus, the cow is sacred and to Muslims, pigs are dirty and forbidden. If a solider refused to use their weapon, they’d be sent home without pay and in disgrace.

If you ask me, this is rather harsh treatment. If you’re Hindu or Muslim, can you imagine someone eating something of the cow or pig? I didn’t think it was very pleasing either.

The next thing you know, my children will be off praying to the cross and eating beef while my mother cries for the “Devis” (god) of the peaceful, happy animals that never destroyed anything.

  2. SHELLY CHAT! DISGRACED HERO EDITION!
    By Shelly Guan

I caught with former famous sepoy, Abhay Moh, who recently was one who rebelled against a British official. Moh was strong and diligent soldier that worked hard in his position. Honored for his bravery in protection for India, he believed strongly in Hindu beliefs and Indian traditions. He immediately refused to even touch the new cartridge that was covered in cow fat.

    Q: so, what exactly happened?

A: When I received my new rifle, it came with a box. When I opened the creasy box, it contained a cartridge covered in fat. I dropped the box and asked my partner what was on it. He said, “The fat of the sacred cows.” I was deeply disgusted. My family has taught me to the love the cow, and the British thought that I’d be fine biting off the cartridge to open it. I didn’t dare touch it, for I loved the peaceful, calm creature. The English official yelled at me and took my rifle and badge away. I was sent home without my badge and pay.

Q: Are you okay? What are your feelings on it?

A: I think this is insanity and unjust! How can I be forced to go against my own religion? I now have no job to support my family, even though the job of a sepoy paid little. I wish India was back to the way it was. Things were fine before, when the English didn’t come and destroy my life.

Q: Some other heroic sepoys are also rebelling against the British. Are you going to join them?

A: OF COURSE! In order to restore India to the way it was before, I would fight for my home and former traditional country.

  3. The Color of Freedom

The Red Coats come in and begin to steal
Our Culture, our language and the Indian feel
    They think themselves higher
    Adding fuel to the fire
    Creating an Anti-imperialist nation

    The Sepoy Rebellion must arise
We’ll stand up with courage and fight for the prize
    To win back our voice
    That gave us the choice
To keep the Indian culture alive

The can’t have all power because it’s unjust
    Only control satisfies their lust
We will not fret; we’ll stand up and fight
For their British rule, it ends tonight
    We service no dictators

They try to disguise their selfish ways
With lies, but sacrilege is the price we must pay
    To bite off a cartridge that’s anti-religious
The world that they dream is all too fictitious
We won’t change our lives for the price of theirs

A Country Imperial, national, and stubborn
Can never see and will never learn
Freedom is a virtue, we hold to it tight
We won’t surrender to Britain’s powerful might
Even if the price of our freedom is the blood of our people

  8. Dear Diary,

I am a young Sepoy Indian from a Village not far from here. I have seen many horrible injustices in my short lifetime. I have seen great men with great red coats come into our land. These men seem to have no regard for what we believe in. My father was a soldier but only because he did not bite off a gun cartridge he has been sent home ashamed and empty handed. Now my family struggles to find work. These men have only come in the pursuit of power. They perceive us as worthless humans who don’t know what religion to follow. The Red Coats have violated our customs and traditions. They have forced many Indian Sepoyers to conform to Christianity. My father has joined the cause of the Sepoy rebellion and he will fight for our Muslim and Hindu cultures. Hopefully we will soon be free!

    Sincerely,
    Oni

  9. Dear Diary,

I am a young Sepoy Indian from a Village not far from here. I have seen many horrible injustices in my short lifetime. I have seen great men with great red coats come into our land. These men seem to have no regard for what we believe in. My father was a soldier yet he was sent home disgraced with no pay. He was told to bite off the end of a gun cartridge that contained animal fat from pigs and cows. In our religion cows are sacred and pigs are untouchable. Regardless my father was disgraced. Now my family struggles to find work. These men have only come in the pursuit of power. They perceive us as worthless humans who don’t know what religion to follow. The Red Coats have violated our customs and traditions. They have forced many Indian Sepoyers to conform to Christianity. They may call Christianity a religion yet I see it as their way to keep control over others. Most Sepoy Indians have refused to follow the British rule and from this emerged the Sepoy Rebellion. My father has joined the cause of the Sepoy rebellion and he will fight for our Muslim and Hindu cultures. Hopefully we will soon be free!

    Sincerely,
    Oni
